Kawkaban is an ancient fortified citadel to the west of Sana'a in the Yemeni Mountains.  The ancient stone town is walled from the north and is fortified naturally from the other directions.  Kawkaban is perched on the edge on the Tabal Kawkaban (9,350 feet) and served as a mountain fortress for the residents of Shibam, Yemen.
